In het eerste jaar van Cyrus, den koning van Perzië, bewoog Jahweh de geest van Cyrus, den koning van Perzië, om het woord in vervulling te doen gaan, dat Jahweh door de mond van Jeremias gesproken had. Daarom liet deze in heel zijn rijk mondeling en schriftelijk afkondigen:
