తన పాలన 8 వ సంవత్సరంలో తానింకా బాలుడుగా ఉండగానే అతడు తన పూర్వీకుడైన దావీదు దేవుణ్ణి వెతకడం మొదలుపెట్టాడు. తన 12 వ ఏట అతడు ఉన్నత పూజాస్థలాలనూ అషేరా దేవతాస్తంభాలనూ పడగొట్టి, చెక్కిన విగ్రహాలనూ పోత విగ్రహాలనూ తీసివేసి, యూదానూ యెరూషలేమునూ శుద్ధి చేయడం మొదలు పెట్టాడు.

¶ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father: and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images.
