દમસ્કસના જે દેવોએ તેને હાર આપી હતી તેઓને તેણે બલિદાનો ચઢાવ્યા. તેણે કહ્યું, “કેમ કે અરામના રાજાઓના દેવોએ તેઓને સહાય કરી છે તો આ બલિદાનો ચઢાવવાને લીધે એ દેવો મારી પણ મદદ કરશે.” પણ તેમ કરવાથી ઊલટું તેને અને આખા ઇઝરાયલને ભારે નુકસાન થયું.

For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.
