ప్రజలు తమ పూర్వీకుల దేవుడైన యెహోవా మందిరాన్ని విడిచి, అషేరా దేవతాస్తంభాలను, విగ్రహాలను పూజించారు. వారు చేసిన ఈ దుర్మార్గానికి యూదావారి మీదికీ యెరూషలేము నివాసుల మీదికీ దేవుని కోపం వచ్చింది.

And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.
