ఎల్కానా ప్రతి సంవత్సరం అలాగే చేస్తూ ఉండేవాడు. హన్నా యెహోవా మందిరానికి వెళ్ళినప్పుడల్లా పెనిన్నా ఆమెను విసిగించేది. అందువల్ల ఆమె భోజనం చేయకుండా ఏడుస్తూ ఉండేది.
