தாவீது என்பவன் யூதாவிலுள்ள பெத்லெகேம் ஊரானான ஈசாய் என்னும் பெயருள்ள எப்பிராத்திய மனிதனுடைய மகனாக இருந்தான்; ஈசாய்க்கு எட்டு மகன்கள் இருந்தார்கள்; இவன் சவுலின் நாட்களிலே மற்ற மக்களுக்குள்ளே வயது முதிர்ந்த கிழவனாக மதிக்கப்பட்டான்.
