యెహోవా సమూయేలుతో ఇలా చెప్పాడు “ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల మీద రాజుగా ఉండకుండా నేను తిరస్కరించిన సౌలును గూర్చి నువ్వు ఎంతకాలం దుఃఖిస్తావు? నీ కొమ్మును నూనెతో నింపు, బేత్లెహేముకు చెందిన యెష్షయి దగ్గరకి నిన్ను పంపిస్తున్నాను. అతని కొడుకుల్లో ఒకడిని నేను రాజుగా ఎంపిక చేశాను.”
