સવારે શાઉલને મળવાને શમુએલ વહેલો ઊઠ્યો. શમુએલને કહેવામાં આવ્યું, “શાઉલ કાર્મેલમાં આવ્યો છે. તેણે પોતાને માટે એક કીર્તિસ્તંભ ઊભો કર્યો છે, ત્યાંથી પાછો વળીને આગળ ચાલીને નીચે ગિલ્ગાલમાં ગયો છે.”
