இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் அன்றையதினம் மிகுந்த வருத்தம் அடைந்தார்கள்; நான் என் எதிரிகளை பழிவாங்கவேண்டும், மாலைவரைக்கும் பொறுக்காமல் எவன் சாப்பிடுகிறானோ, அவன் சபிக்கப்பட்டவன் என்று சவுல் மக்களுக்கு ஆணையிட்டுச் சொல்லியிருந்தபடியால், மக்களில் ஒருவரும் கொஞ்சம்கூட சாப்பிடாதிருந்தார்கள்.

¶ And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.
