ฝ่ายพวกผู้ใหญ่แห่งเมืองยาเบชกล่าวแก่ท่านว่า “ขอผ่อนผันให้ข้าพเจ้าสักเจ็ดวัน เพื่อข้าพเจ้าจะได้ส่งผู้สื่อสารไปให้ทั่วขอบเขตอิสราเอล แล้วถ้าไม่มีคนใดช่วยข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายให้พ้นได้ ข้าพเจ้าทั้งหลายจะยอมมอบตัวไว้ให้แก่ท่าน”

And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days’ respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.
