Er was niets in de ark dan alleen de twee stenen tafelen die Mozes op Horeb erin gelegd had, de tafelen van het verbond dat de Here met de Israëlieten gesloten had, bij hun uittocht uit het land Egypte.

There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
