In de ark was niets dan de twee stenen tafelen, die Moses op de berg Horeb erin had gelegd; het waren de tafelen van het Verbond, dat Jahweh bij de uittocht uit Egypte met de Israëlieten gesloten had.

There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
