แล้วหญิงคนที่บุตรของตนยังมีชีวิตอยู่นั้นทูลกษัตริย์ เพราะว่าจิตใจของเธออาลัยในบุตรชายของเธอ เธอว่า “โอ ข้าแต่เจ้านายของข้าพระองค์ ขอทรงมอบเด็กที่มีชีวิตนั้นให้เขาไป และถึงอย่างไรก็ดีอย่าทรงฆ่าเสีย” แต่หญิงอีกคนหนึ่งว่า “อย่าให้ฉันเป็นเจ้าของหรือของฉัน ขอทรงแบ่งเถิดเพคะ”

Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.
