Jabes ropade till (bad, åkallade) Israels Gud (Elohim) och sa: Om du bara ville välsigna mig stort utvidga mitt område (min gräns). Låt din hand vara med mig (låt mig vara nära dig) bevara mig från ondska, så att jag inte smärtar mig. Gud lät det ske som han begärde (önskade).

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
