Ook van Manasse kozen er voor David partij, toen hij met de Filistijnen tegen Saul te velde was getrokken, maar niet met hen mee mocht vechten. De tyrannen der Filistijnen stuurden hem namelijk met opzet terug, daar ze meenden, dat hij ten koste van hun hoofden naar zijn meester Saul zou overlopen!

And there fell some of Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them not: for the lords of the Philistines upon advisement sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.
